Unlit and Extinguished
This still life is one in a series of value studies set up in the dark of my basement. I wanted to get back to basics for a while concentrating on drawing; line work and value only.
I believe this method keeps artistic skills sharpened as much in the same way as drawing the human figure from life.
This still life depicts a life extinguished perhaps by substance abuse before they ever got a chance to shine in this world; hence the candle which was never lit but smoking from being burnt out.
