These beautiful poppy flowers were growing in St. Stephan’s Green in the center of Dublin, Ireland in early summer. A relative was visiting there at the time and noticed how the sun was striking them in such a magnificent way so he took a photo of them. When he returned home he commissioned me to create a piece of art for him.
I decided to render them in pastel, first manually cropping the picture to get a good composition. I then sketched the flowers onto black paper with a white charcoal pencil. I added a base coat with pastel pencils and gradually added thicker coats with pastel sticks, adding the necessary details.
